When you instruct us, we will:
Arrange a first meeting to consider the action to be taken
Assess the value of the assets and liabilities
Consider the validity of any will found amongst the deceaseds effects
Consider the impact of Inheritance Tax
Obtain the grant of probate from the Probate Registry
Collect in the assets
Pay the liabilities
Pay any legacies and handle any bequests
Sort out any income tax that may be due or repayable
Obtain clearance from the Capital Taxes Office if Inheritance Tax has been paid
Submit detailed accounts to you for approval
Distribute the residue
When someone dies it is important that their affairs are administered sensitively. Unless there are pressing financial difficulties we suggest that a first meeting to discuss the terms of the will, or the Intestacy Rules if no will exists, should take place a week or so after the funeral.
At that first meeting, we will agree with you the extent of our involvement. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to be involved only with the formal application for probate and the sale of a house. In other cases we may be asked to take care of everything from clearing the house and keeping the garden tended, to drawing up a deed varying the terms of the will in order to gain a tax advantage.
